UKRAINE DIESEL/MODERN TRACTION DEPOT TOUR

We reserve the right to change the itinerary if, in our opinion, it would be unwise to visit any areas. In this instance, you would be notified of any changes before commencement of the tour. You will be pleased to know that this clause has not yet had to be exercised! Below are a few notes you may find helpful, but, if you have anything at all you'd like to discuss about the tour, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Flights:

US Citizens:

There are now direct flights to Kiev from JFK.

UK Citizens:

There are direct flights to Kiev from London Heathrow with BA, or London Gatwick with Ukraine Airlines. There are also plenty of  flights from local airports via continental hubs, i.e. KLM, Lufthansa, Lot, Swiss, etc.

Visas:

Please note that a visa is NOT now required to visit Ukraine for citizens of the European Union, United Kingdom, Switzerland, USA, Canada and Japan. If you are from a country still requiring a visa, please contact us as we can assist.

Accommodation:

All sleeping cars are comfortable and there are toilets  at the ends of each one.No more than two persons per compartment. A Shower is also available. The Kozatsky Hotel/Ukraina Hotel in Kiev holds an historic position right on the Main Square where all the demonstrations took place for the Orange Revolution; it is a few steps from the huge underground shopping arcades (which will amaze you!); both are interesting hotels, still run on Russian lines with a "madam" (of the receptionist variety!) on each floor to guard your room keys.

Meals:

All meals are provided while on the train and other meals where stated in the itinerary, as are tea, coffee and mineral water. Alcoholic drinks on the train are extra and will be charged for. Tea and coffee not at meals also has a small charge. Each car has its own attendant who will serve any refreshments ordered. Evening meals and lunches while staying at the Kozatsky/Ukraina Hotels in Kiev are also extra, but it should be noted that food and drink are cheap in Ukraine and you will find that your money will go a long way!Take your own mug, sugar and spoon on the train with tea/coffee/hot chocolate bags, to fill up from the attendants small boiler whenever you wish.

Services:

The train carries its own doctor, and one or more entertainers who will perform each evening we spend on the train. Alcoholic drinks are available in the Bar Car for as long as you wish to stay up and drink them (at your expense!). WARNING - If you do buy cheap vodka from local railway stations, you're likely to need the doctor after drinking it - it is a lethal mix!

Photography/General Fun:

We will do as many runpasts as is sensibly possible on the tour, together with linesiding. We will have with us Victor from Dzherelo, who is an expert on all the good photo locations for runpasts, so we will be sure of getting some good shots/video. He is in radio contact with crews, so we can ask for noise, clag, whatever you fancy!

Electrical Supply/Battery Charging:

There are battery charging facilities on the train. These will be shown to you if required. Continental two- pin adapters are required.

Culture and customs:

The tour takes place in an Eastern bloc country and, consequently, standards of accommodation, transport, safety and mannerisms may be different from Western expectations. Likewise, food may be presented in a different form from that to which you are used. This is what makes a holiday different, but, if you have any concerns, please contact us to discuss them or talk to others who may have travelled to such areas.

Health and Safety:

While aboard the train, getting on and off , walking around depots or taking lineside photographs, you are advised to wear suitable footwear and clothing and to keep a careful watch for moving locos, rolling stock, points, rails and uneven ground. Always obey railway staff or guides if so directed. EE Railtours will not be responsible for any accident caused by a tour participant's own negligence.

Disabled Facilities:

We regret that, due to the lack of disabled facilities on trains and in Ukraine in general, this tour is unsuitable for wheelchair users or the physically infirm.
