Septemvri - Velingrad - Bansko - Sofia


ITINERARY - 7-day Tour:  
(or go direct to Itinerary for 9-day Tour)

Day 1: 
Arrival in Sofia. Tranfer to a 3-star hotel and check in. Depending on the time of arrival - possible panoramic tour. Visit Alexander Nevski Memorial Cathedral, Sofia (6th century), St George Rotunda (4th century), the Presidency, the Roman Walls, the City Garden and the National Theatre. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.






Day 2: 
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning departure by our private train to Veliko Turnovo, using a steam locomotive for approximately 50 kms of the route. Arrival and tour of Veliko Turnovo, including Tsarevets Royal Hill with Baldwin Tower (the leader of the 4th Crusade), Samovodska Charshia (street of crafts) and wine tasting in Liaskovec. Dinner and overnight in a 4-star hotel in Veliko Turnovo.


Day 3:

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by our train with steam locomotive to the town of Tryavna, the Revival appearance of which has been preserved. Short tour of Tryavna, including a visit to Daskalov House, which houses the Museum of Wood Carving and Icon Painting. Departure by our train with electric locomotive to Kazanluk, located in the heart of the Valley of Roses. Here we will visit one of the Thracian tombs in the region and taste the rose products in the complex. Dinner and overnight in a 3-star hotel in Kazanluk.
 

Day 4: 
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by our train with electric locomotive to Plovdiv, the second largest city in Bulgaria. Visit to Old Plovdiv architectural reserve, followed by an optional wine tasting in a Hindian house. Dinner and overnight in a 3-star hotel.

Day 5:
 
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by our train with electric locomotive to the town of Septemvri, where we will change trains and continue by a narrow-gauge line with a steam locomotive to the town of Velingrad, crossing one of the most beautiful parts of the Rhodopes Mountains.  Continue by bus from Velingrad to Bansko, where we will check in at the 3-star hotel at which we are to spend the night following dinner in a typical Bulgarian restaurant.



Day 6: 
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by bus to Sofia, en route visiting Rila Monastery, which was founded in the 10th century. The Monastery has been a National Historical Reserve since 1976 and a UNESCO site since 1983. In Sofia we will visit the National History Museum, following which there will be free time and a farewell dinner in a typical Bulgarian restaurant, with a folk performance. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 7: 
Breakfast at the hotel before transfer to the airport.

ITINERARY - 9-day Tour:  

Day 1: 
Arrival in Sofia. Tranfer to a 3-star hotel and check in. Depending on the time of arrival - possible panoramic tour. Day 2:
 
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by our private train to Plovdiv, the second largest city in Bulgaria, travelling with steam locomotive on part of the route (50 kms). Check in at 3-star hotel. In the afternoon, wine tasting in the village of Brestovica and a visit to Old Plovdiv architectural reserve. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.




Day 3:
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by our train to Bourgas, the second largest city on the Black Sea coast. In the afternoon, tour to the town of Nessebar, a UNESCO site situated on a small peninsula. Dinner and overnight in a 3-star hotel in the Bourgas area.

Day 4: 
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by our train to Varna, the largest Bulgarian town on the Black Sea coast. Check in at a 3-star hotel. The afternoon is free for visiting the beach, or there is an optional tour of Varna. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

  

Day 5: 
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by our train to the town of Russe. Visit to the National Museum of Transport and Communications, housed in the oldest railway station in Bulgaria. Carriages of Sultan Abdul Aziz, Tsar Ferdinand and Tsar Boris are preserved in it. Dinner and overnight in a 3-star hotel.

Day 6: 
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by our train to Veliko Turnovo. Tour of Veliko Turnovo, including Tsarevets Royal Hill with Baldwin Tower (the leader of the 4th Crusade), Samovodska Charshia (street of crafts), and Arbanassi Museum Village. Dinner and overnight in a four-star hotel in Veliko Turnovo.

Day 7: 
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Tryavna with steam locomotive. Short tour of Tryavna, including a visit to Daskalov House, in which the Museum of Wood Carving and Icon Painting is located. Departure by our train with electric locomotive to Kazanluk, in the centre of the Valley of Roses, when we will visit one of the Thracian tombs in the region and taste rose products in the folk complex. Dinner and overnight in a 3-star hotel in Kazanluk.

Day 8: 
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by our train to Sofia. Check in at 3-star hotel, free time, farewell dinner in a traditional Bulgarian restaurant with a folklore programme. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 9: 
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport.
